Write Winning Grants Seminar General Information:

Sponsored by the Office of Research, this full-day seminar on successful grant writing will address both conceptual and practical aspects. Rather than what is usually presented – little more than how to fill out the forms and conform to what is covered in the instructions – this grant-writing workshop emphasizes idea development, how to write for reviewers, and tips and strategies that have kept the presenter, Stephen Russell, D.V.M., Ph.D., funded continuously for more than 25 years. This presentation is designed to be maximally informative while at the same time, entertaining. Discussion periods, practical exercises, an extensive handout, breaks, and ample time for lunch, also help to ensure that there is maximal gain from the program.

The principals and fundamentals of good proposal writing emphasized throughout the program are easy to extrapolate and apply to the preparation of a grant application to any agency, in any discipline, however applications for NIH and NSF are used as prototypical examples. This program is appropriate for any faculty member who is contemplating a competitive application to federal and state agencies, and foundations.

The Write Winning Grants Seminar is a pre-requisite for the follow-up Proposal-Writing Workshop Series: Write and Submit a Competitive Grant Application in which selected faculty personally work with Dr. Russell on their proposal submission. This is 26-week long workshop, includes both on-site and electronic interactions between Dr. Russell and the participants, and offers ample one-on-one time to meet the specific needs of individuals/teams. At the conclusion of the Write Winning Grants Seminar, tenured or tenure-track faculty may competitively apply to enter this series. For more information and testimonials on the Proposal Writing Workshop Series see Grant Central web site and/or contact Esther Pratt or Dan Nordquist in OGRD. Applications for this series will be available at the seminar.
