13-August-2001 meeting - items discussed:
- Dan discussed the VPR/OGRD closeout for June 2001. The awards are up 28.2% because of new monies in the million dollar range that brought up the volume - USDA, ONR, Education are some of the major sponsors.
- Dan met with the VPR and AVPR regarding a search for the Director of OGRD. They discussed the OGRD Director job description and composition of the search committee. The search committee is expected to be assembled in the next couple of weeks as well as advertisement for the position moving concurrently.

There will be four areas discussed human subjects research, conflict of interest, research misconduct, and mentorship. This will be important for any of your faculty, grad students, technicians, etc. to attend.

- We introduced new folks in the room.
- We discussed Material Transfer Agreements and why they are important to negotiate properly especially with Industry. WSU must maintain ownership of research results, intellectual property, and keep governing law and jurisdiction either in the state of Washington or keep it silent. The important issue of ownership is to allow our faculty to keep the research results for their normal teaching, research, and public service duties. If we turn over those rights to the Material Provider then we are not allowed to use that information, unless we ask.
- PHS 398 forms are new and will be required to be used in January 2002. In addition, Continuation sheets will soon be NO LONGER sent to the institutions to disseminate to Pis, but will come as e-mail reminders.
- The above PHS information led to a discussion of Public 106-107 that requires the federal agencies to "streamline" the grant process and we are starting to see agency by agency and even subagency be subagency come up with their own ideas. This will be interesting to manage because OGRD may be responsible to keep userids and passwords for each of these subagencies and then keep the faculty userids and passwords for each of the subagencies. The could be quite an impact on IS management for WSU.
- Excess compensation was briefly discussed in that the state of Washington does not allow non-performance to be paid so that may impact supplemental pay to faculty for their work at getting grants, etc.
- Aug. 29th is the next HRS class in the Life Cycle series.
- Monthly seminars have been considered that focus more on the specific topics.
OGRD Workshop Sign-up
- Our next meeting is scheduled for September 10th at 9:00 am in Murrow 55.
