11-August-2003 meeting - items discussed:

  1. OGRD News, Andrea Comley:
    • Dave Clark has been hired as the Research Compliance Officer and has moved his office to OGRD in Neill Hall. He will be overseeing Research Compliance issues and supervising the Government Assurances Coordinator and the Animal Subjects Coordinator positions.
    • Jamie Murphy has been hired as the Government Assurances Coordinator, filling Misty Cato's position. She will start on September 2, 2003.
    • Jessika Satori has accepted the position of Faculty Support Coordinator and will begin full time in September.
    • OGRD is short staffed this month due to vacations and other out-of-the-office requirements. Please be patient as items will take a bit longer than normal to process.
    • Calendar of Events:
      • August 18 - Info Fair in French Ad, OGRD will have a booth
      • August 20 - Faculty Orientation
      • September 11 - NCURA Online re: NIH Commons
      • September 16 - NCURA Session re: Intellectual Property
      • September 25 - OGRD Seminar Series re: E-Gov
      • October 1 &2 - New Faculty Orientation
    • OGRD Processing Priorities:
      • Budget Approval (24 hrs)
      • Proposal Review and Processing (24 hrs if no "issues")
      • Red Folders - Items based on DOLS or Date Specific (24-48 hrs)
      • Awards/Miscellaneous (2 wks)
      • Subcontracts (2 - 3 wks)
    • Note: These processing time estimates are based on a full staff and a moderate number of phone calls and emails needing immediate response. These factors do effect the amount of time staff has to complete other duties. We thank you for your patience as we experience periods of heavy work load and/or lighter staffing. We will get to items as quickly as we are able.
      • USDA Update - You may wish to send items that can be damaged by X-ray (photos, disks, videos, etc) via Federal Express as items received by USDA via Priority Mail or regular mail will go through their security screening and may be damaged in this process.
      • NIH has responded to recent frustration regarding a lag in the notification system regarding due dates for non-competing proposals. They will now send email notices to PIs directly two months prior to the due date for these reports. You may contact Andrea Comley (acomley@wsu.edu) or go to the NIH website to access a copy of this notice #NOTOD03054, released August 5, 2003.
  2. Notification re: Date/Time/Location of the September RAC Meeting will be sent via the RAC Listserve.
