10-December-2001 meeting - items discussed:
-
OGRD and SPFO implemented a certification for patents and inventions in order to better comply with the grant or contract terms and conditions of federal sponsors. It is important that the P.I.(s) certify if they have developed any inventions on their projects, especially if Dan Nordquist, as the WSU authorized signator, is going to sign for them. The form that will be sent out to the PI's will come from SPFO. (See form attached RTF | PDF).
- There was a discussion about the Washington State Ethics law and an update of the "Advice Provided to Faculty" from Dr. Hedge. It is important to contact Dan Nordquist if you see that there is a potential for any conflicts of interest or Washington State Ethics violations, ie, a PI conducting a research agreement and having a consulting arrangement simultaneously.
-
I will soon announce the awards for the Vitamins Research Funds. We have letters for 4 awards coming. We will be using the Washington State University Foundation (WSUF) to accept the awards and WSUF and WSU will then work out arrangements to manage the fiscal and technical aspects of the projects. Steve Schauble and Dan Nordquist will work out the logistics and then be contacting the PIs and the Departmental Administrators.
-
OGRD and SPFO search update: Possibly moving into the stage where interviews can get started in the next month (or so).
-
We have worked on a lot of Material Transfer Agreements (MTA's). If your faculty have questions you can send them to Dan Nordquist. Also, Dan will be having them fill out the Material Transfer Agreement Information Sheet that is out on the web. http://www.ogrd.wsu.edu/mta.asp
-
OGRD staffing update: Grant Morton is out on shared leave and will return ½ time in mid December and then full-time in mid January. We hired some help for the December time slot but will be handling everything internally when Grant comes back ½ time - so be patient with us.
-
Andrea shared the details of the USDA re-submissions and the steps to make that happen if necessary. Please contact her if you have any questions.
-
We reviewed the no-cost extension procedures. PI writes a request to their Programmatic contact and forwards to OGRD. Dan will co-sign and forward to Programmatic contact and Business contact so clear communication occurs.
-
OGRD is developing a seminar series for the Spring. Once a month, we will be putting together specific topics of interest for faculty, ie, faculty sharing their experiences from their participation on review panels (USDA, NSF, NIH, etc.). Sean Lyons will be the contact person for this series.
-
Web-page reminders.
- OGRD has on their web pages the Quick Guide which provides helpful information when putting grant proposals together, ie, numbers, political districts, guidelines, etc.
- Grant Transfer procedures are on-line under the links.
- WSU Proposal and Award Guidelines are also under the links section.
-
F&A Proposal update: WSU is still providing a great deal of information to DHHS to substantiate our rates per Barry Johnston.
-
Our next meeting is scheduled for January 14th at 9:00 am in Murrow 53.
