11-February-2002 meeting - items discussed:

  1. OGRD News:
    • Denise has accepted an offer over at the Institute of Biological Chemistry
    • Grant Morton's health is still not great
    • We have made some other adjustments to responsibilities in order to carry us over. We need your help for us to prioritize your needs.
  2. Discussed the Excess Compensation issue and Faculty salary augmentation policy. A reminder that the Excess Compensation policy is on the OGRD web page under http://www.ogrd.wsu.edu/guidelines.asp
  3. OGRD started the "OGRD Seminar Series" that reaches out to the faculty and graduate students with areas of interest for them. For example, the first one will be a panel of experienced faculty that have had success obtaining NIH funding. These faculty will discuss their experiences and share their knowledge.
  4. The Institutional Biosafety Committee has sent out a survey regarding the use of "Select Agents" by your faculty. These are potential biological agents that can be used for terrorism.
  5. Dan shared various topics related to intellectual property, cost-sharing, IRB, and other compliance issues based on his meeting in Washington D.C. at the Council on Government Relations meeting.
  6. Dan shared that the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP) is having another round of applications for membership. Dan said he would get the ball rolling and have an application developed for submission.

  8. Dan encouraged people to attend the National Council of University Research Administrators Regional meeting in Hawaii on April 14-17.
  9. We discussed Electron Research Administration (eRA) and the way many federal sponsors are implementing public law 106-107. The law that asks the agencies to streamline the federal assistance process (grants) via on-line mechanisms.
  10. Our next meeting is scheduled for March 11th at 9:10 am in the Engineering Bldg.
