14-July-2000 meeting - items discussed:
- Barry Johnston came and explained to our group some of the changes that have occurred in Business Affairs and information related to submitting the new indirect cost proposal to the Federal Government. Here are some bullet points that summarized his discussion:
- Barry’s title is now the Director of Business Services and Controller - SPEG reports to Barry.
- The University hired DMG Maximus to submit our indirect cost proposal - WSU will supply data and DMG will put it together. The space survey will be an important part of the proposal that will include help needed by the CFAO’ s and departmental administrators. NOTE: If you are not aware of the need for the space survey you may want to contact your CFAO to see if you need to be involved - this is VERY important.
- The indirect cost agreement that we are operating under is one from 1987 because we simply extended that one instead of going with the proposal that was submitted in 1994. The Feds gave us the option of keeping our current rate and extending it. WSU chose to extend.
- The DS-II will simultaneously be revised and that is to be directed by John Daly. John will include the campus conmmnity on this revision.
- Joan reminded us that the American Heart Assoc. does not allow QTR so we cannot include those costs into our budgets - FYI! SPFO also hired Denise Blacker to take Nancy M’s old position - SPFO is still down three positions.
- Tom Martin brought us up to speed on the Grant Task Force. It is being reinstituted and
a meeting was scheduled to discuss how to proceed. We can get an update at the next RAG
meeting.
- Tom Martin also brought up the issue of data warehousing and its potential for helping develop necessary reports. Tom Zimmer brought up three points regarding that issue 1) Be sure and talk with your CFAO as to what you would like to have included in the data warehouse, 2) Expense is an issue - $1,000 per desktop computer, 3) How well does data
warehousing fit into an overall upgrade to our University’s computing system.
- Denise reminded us that by 10/1/00 all NSF proposals will be submitted electronically via FastLane so it is important to be prepared.
