9-October-2000 meeting - items discussed:
- Dan is very busy this week with the ALAC Accreditation. Denise will lead the meeting this week.
- Denise announced that the OGRD Monthly Reports are very closed to being completed. Thanks to Monte and all the hard work he has put into completing the reports.
- NIH Notices:
- Misconduct in Science is a very serious issue. NIH has announced two findings of scientific misconduct this past month. These findings have greatly impacted the careers of both investigators. For a period of five years both investigators have entered into a Voluntary Exclusion Agreement that: (1) to exclude themselves from any contracting or subcontracting with any agency of the U.S. Government, and from eligibility for nonprocurement transactions (e.g. grants and cooperative agreements); and (2) to exclude themselves from serving in any advisory capacity to PHS.
- Revision of PHS 398 and 2590 grant application. NIH is seeking comments/suggestions, for the next 30 days, in the following areas: (1) Ways to enhance the quality, utility and clarity of the instructions; (2) Ways to minimize the burden on those who are to respond, while still maintaining the effectiveness of the forms; and (3) Any other comments concerning the 398 and 2590 form revision. You may e-mail your comments to 398Revi@od.nih.gov or visit NIH's interactive feedback form at http://grants.nih.gov/cfdocs/398/feedback.cfm
- NIH ERA Commons Working Group: The National Institutes of Health is in the process of establishing a Project Management Team to oversee the continued design, development and implementation of the NIH electronic Research Administration (eRA) system. With this announcement NIH is seeking to recruit faculty and/or grantee organization professionals to participate on the NIH Commons Working Group. The Working Group will be expected to be engaged in dialog via e-mail and/or conference calls on an as-needed basis, as well as to meet regularly (3-5 meetings/year) to discuss and/or review planning documents related to NIH Commons design, deployment, operations, maintenance, and/or enhancements. If you are interested you can view the full announcement at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-01-001.html
- Denise announced that last week Dan attended a walk through DS II training session led by John Daly. Also attending the training was Mary Hoffman, Pat Sturko and Joan Root. Helpful feedback was given to John Daly at the training session, and the DS II training will be available to all faculty and staff shortly. It was discussed on how important it is to encourage your faculty to attend this training. As it is expected that the Federal Auditors will be discussing these issues with faculty/staff this spring when our F&A proposal is being reviewed. In addition, a timeline for the completion of the F&A proposal and DS II training was handed out.
- Mary Hoffman provided a synopsis for each of the Research Administration Workshops that are being developed. There was a discussion on the classes and suggestions given for additional workshops. Mary has asked for volunteers to develop and evaluate the classes.
- Reminder: All proposals to NSF must be submitted via FastLane as of 01-October-2000. OGRD will be putting on a FastLane Workshop on October 10th at 1:30-3:30 in Todd 109.
- The distribution of proposal transmittal letters, completely signed REX forms and award notices was discussed. At this time OGRD is forwarding copies to the PI, Chair, and Dean. In the past, many research administrators were also making special requests to receive copies. However, it has become too time consuming, as well as confusing, to keep track of all these special requests. Therefore, OGRD has offered to either send the copies to the Chair or Departmental Administrator, but not both. It was decided to send the copies to the Departmental Administrator, and the Administrators will give copies to the Chair as needed. As soon as OGRD has complied a complete administrator list this change will be made.

| Thank you all for attending. I expect that we will be receiving current updates on the status of the indirect cost proposal preparation and the workings of the Grant Task Force at future RAG meetings.
